Chiropractor

I am reading this new book: A New Kind Of Christian by Brian D. McLaren. I have been wanting to blog about it, but have been SO busy!! I also want to blog about my birthday and the raw food diet.

My life in a nut shell: I spent the whole weekend working on installing flooring in my upstairs hall. It is beautiful, but time consuming. I also have been busy going to appointments. I have been bringing Calvin to a chiropractor and he has been pooping! This is the greatest miracle. Calvin, who will be five in September, has had horrible trouble with constipation (that might be an understatement). After many painful tests the doctor told us that his colon just wasn't strong enough and that he would have to be on medication for at least a year. Well, as many of you know, I am pretty anti-medication. I gave him his medication once a week and he would poop on that day (once a week). I quit giving him the medication and brought him to a local well-reputed chiropractor and he has pooped six times in the past two weeks!! WITHOUT MEDICATION! I am a believer!

Providers' Day

Well, I haven't been very good with my Raw Food diet the last couple of days. Sometimes I smell or see food that I really like and it drives me crazy. Then I eat a little of it and it not only makes me sick now, but it doesn't even taste that good. I wish that I could bypass my taste-buds. I know that I feel great when I am eating raw food, but I am getting bored with the taste of salad and nuts. I could never get sick of the taste of fruit. I am reading a book about raw food (also called live food) that Virginia loaned to me. Hopefully it will give me some good ideas, and also encourage me. I don't want to quit cooked foods altogether because I still want to be able to eat out with Shane and have ice cream once in awhile. Self control has always been a little bit of an issue for me :).

Today is Providers' Day. So make sure you thank your day care provider!! Tomorrow is our five year wedding anniversary. YEAH! Then Sunday is Mothers' Day and my birthday. We are dropping the boys off at Shane's mom's for the weekend and we are going to motorcycle and hang out at home together. I am VERY excited, but I am nervous to leave Carrera overnight. It should be a good weekend.

Raw Food

So, I am starting a new diet. Which really is a horrible word to use. When you think of a diet you probably think about trying to lose weight or some fad. I have never been a dieter and I never will be. Actually I am copying my best friend, Virginia. She has been on a raw food diet for I think three years. Sometimes she is more strict than other times, but she told me that she has so much energy when she eats mainly raw food. RAW FOOD: Anything that has not been cooked over 105 degrees (I guess this is debatable, but for my purposes, that is enough explanation). This does NOT mean I eat raw meat. It is a vegan diet consisting of mainly fruits, vegetables, and nuts/seeds. Anyway, I am eating about 70% raw food now. I do have a little of what Shane is eating during the meal when he is home. So, for example, for lunch today I made soup and grilled cheese for the kids (they also had grapes and milk) and for Shane. So I had a huge spinach salad with carrots, celery, sunflower seeds and salad dressing (that I made out of totally raw foods), BUT I also had about a half of a grilled cheese sandwich and a couple of black olives and croutons on my salad. I must say that I am really enjoying this diet (or should I call it a lifestyle). I am now vegetarian, but I still will eat eggs and a little cheese and milk, so I am not a vegan (yet). I think Shane is very happy about it. He is a vegetarian and it will be nice to share the same philosophy about animals. This has really been a long time coming. So, like most things in life, my philosophy is EVERYTHING IN MODERATION, and this also applies to my raw food diet. Although it does not apply to eating meat. I really want to never eat meat again. And on that note, have you ever looked a pig in the eyes? Shane's sister, Mary, has a hobby farm. She has potbellied pigs and they are so funny. They just had four new babies and Colton and Calvin get to name one and it will be their pet away from home. Anyway, pigs have human eyes. It is really very freaky!!

A New Kind

I started reading a book that my best friend, Virginia, lent to me. It is called A New Kind Of Christian. So far I am learning about the concept of Modern and Post-Modern. As I get more into it I will try to blog more. I am in the middle of so many books right now. I really should work at finishing one. Shane also brought a book home that I started to read titled God Is Not Great. I think that I am going to put off reading that one for awhile.

  • I feel like I am on vacation with less kids in my daycare. I still have one opening that I am trying to fill. I have an interview tomorrow.
  • We purchased a new motorcycle today. Shane is very excited about it. It has more power, but is a cruiser, not a sport bike like our previous one. It will be better for travelling.
  • Carrera is working on her fourth tooth and will be crawling any day now. She moves backwards and in circles, but can't move forward yet.
  • Calvin has been doing very well with his pooping. He has been wearing underwear for the last two or three weeks and has had minimal accidents.
  • Colton is going to see a speech therapist in two weeks, finally. At preschool screening in March they referred him to a speech therapist.
I know this is a quick update. It seems that I have less and less time to go on the computer. I really love the warm weather and I am SO excited to do some family activities this summer. We are taking two weeks of vacation and are going to do things around here. It should be a really good summer. I have had really bad allergies this spring, so that has put a damper on the excitement so far. I bit the bullet and went to the doctor on Monday. I have three new medications that will hopefully kick me out of this allergy thing and make me functional again. I will try to blog something a little more interesting next time.
